How To Get Involved

HOW YOU CAN GET INVOLVED TODAY

  • ASK QUESTIONS! What is going on in your area regarding HCV? Are you getting the information you need to manage your health? Is your health care provider up to date on the newest research? If you have new information about HCV or treatments will you health care provider be willing to accept and read it?

  • WRITE! Find out where your state representative and congressperson stands on the issues of Hepatitis C. Do they know anything at all about HCV? Write them or email them about you!
  • Write or email your Congressman or woman, your Senator and ask them about upcoming hearings, what funding is now available for HCV or if any bill is being proposed in Washington for funding for research and treatments. Once they start hearing from the thousands, they must respond. Find out from organizations like HEPCAN who are the state legislators and Congresspersons that are "on our side" and what is being done.

  • WE WILL YOU NEED YOU! HEPCAN will be fighting for recognition of disability benefits by the Social Security Administration. We will be working in Austin over the new two years to affect new bills that will help persons who need treatment and uninsured. We will be working to expand H. B. 1652, especially to add more funding for TDH. We will need people to write, call, visit and even testify before hearings in the next legislation session.

  • GET INVOLVED! Organizations such as ours need volunteers in all areas of Texas. We need a speakers’ group in every area of the State. We need fundraising help. We all need YOU!

  • ADVOCATE, EDUCATE! Talk to friends, family, neighbors about the needs that all of us face.
  • Have them write, call and get involved. We have to fight for every funding dollar we can. Everyone needs to know how they can get involved. The more voices we have the faster we can get states and the federal government to act. Remember, HIV/AIDS had a national SCREAM to get the funding they now have.

  • ORGAN DONATION! Please have your family and friend sign a donor card. HCV is responsible for 51% of all liver transplants. The need is great, 16,500 were waiting last year, only 4,700 were given the Give of Life!

  • CALL US AND ASK! If you need printed information about HCV research, if you need a speaker at your civic groups or if you need to know where to get organ donation cards, Call Us.
